According to the Swedish energy company, during an initial flow test, the well flowed at a rate of 2,400 bpd from the Khufai formation.

B4EW3 has been connected to the production facilities at the Saiwan East oilfield to undergo a long-term production test.

Block 4 is one of Omani three blocks – namely 3, 5 and 15 – in which Tethys Oil has an interest. Blocks 3 and 4 are situated in the eastern part of Oman and cover a combined area of about 30,000 sq km.

“After much diligent work another Khufai field with conventional oil has been found,” said Tethys managing director Magnus Nordin.

“We are hopeful that these results will confirm that we are on the right way to find the key to understanding the complex oil patterns of the Saiwan area.”

Tethys holds a 30 per cent interest in Block 4, with operator CC Energy Development holding 50 per cent and Mitsui E&P holding the remaining 20 per cent stake.
