Safety milestone for offshore platform lift boat

Health & Safety

A Qatari shipyard has reached a safety milestone in the building of a lift boat for offshore platform operations

Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM), a joint venture by marine company Nakilat, revealed it had recently reached a million safe man-hours without any lost-time-incidents (LTIs) on its new lift boat building project.

The announcement represents the first safety milestone achieved on the project, which aims to build a self-propelled and elevating lift boat for the company’s long-time customer Gulf Drilling International (GDI).

“Safety is an important cornerstone of our operations and we pride ourselves on maintaining very high standards,” said Nakilat’s managing director Abdullah Al Sulaiti. “I would like to commend both the N-KOM and GDI project teams for their commitment and support in making this achievement possible today, which is especially significant since this is the first built-in-Qatar lift boat and N-KOM's first new building project.”

Equipped with two deck cranes, a large open deck space of around 800 sq m, a helideck, and accommodation capacity for 130 people, the LB310-design lift boat will be able to support a range of services, including well servicing, commissioning, maintenance and decommissioning of offshore platforms.
