Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency in the production of liquid gas for generation of household electricity, oil minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi has announced

The minister added that the amount of gas associated with the extraction of oil, which used to be burnt in the past, has currently decreased from 70.7mn cu/m to nearly 28.3mn cu/m, according to Iraq-based Shafaq News.

“We have achieved self-sufficiency of liquid gas. We do not need to import,” Abdul-Mahdi noted, adding, “there is significant progress in important dry gas production to generate electricity and we have reached roughly 17mn cu/m.”

Iraq is the second-largest oil exporter in the OPEC after Saudi Arabia with its exports exceeding three million bpd in May 2015, for the first time in decades.
